Dedicated to all those who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
Written in March, 2020 while I was sick after contracting COVID-19. Søren Kierkegaard’s “Fear and Trembling” was also a source of inspiration during this scary time.
“He will think that to enter eternity is possible the next instant, and that also is perfectly true, but by such considerations one never reaches the point of making the movements, but by their aid one sinks deeper and deeper into the mire.” - Søren Kierkegaard, 1843 (tr. Walter Lowrie, 1941)
lyrics
When you have to stay
But you’re crying to get away
It’s hard
I know
Everything’s feeling wrong
Constant reminders that your world has gone
Away
I know
But nothing is gone because
Nothing you’ve thrown out ever goes away
Your blood and the stars are the same
And nothing will stop this change
So let it go, and proclaim
True kindness and love can come from a terrible place
It’s time that I figured out
When sadness tries to lull me to bed
Yeah, my love keeps growing, my love keeps growing instead
And when we just can’t seem to get any answers
My love keeps growing, my love keeps growing
Taking some time to rest
At the Mayor’s behest
I get
Messed up
And now I’m hunting for guilt in a crisis
Bash in some heads to feel righteous
The rage
The state
But look at this hate I spread
And all the ideas it bred
I gotta let it go baby, we’re all fighting the same
We’re stuck in a screeching halt
But this ain’t no ground assault
So put ‘em down baby, there’s nothing to fight
It’s time that we figured out
When sadness tries to lull me to bed
Yeah, my love keeps growing, my love keeps growing instead
And when they just can’t seem to give any answers
My love keeps growing, my love keeps growing for them
'Cause we’re all running from similar disasters
My love keeps growing, my love keeps growing for you
And when people give so generously
Yeah, they keep it going, the love keeps growing
And when I think of those who’ve died
It’s all of the love they leave behind…
When sadness tries to lull me to bed
Yeah, my love keeps growing, my love keeps growing instead
And when they just can’t seem to give any answers
My love keeps growing, my love keeps growing for them
'Cause we’re all running from similar disasters
My love keeps growing, my love keeps growing for you
And when people give so generously
Yeah, they keep it going, the love keeps growing
